This is a Long One

These are the students in my morning shift. (L-R) Warren and Richard are in the back. Owen and Chevon are in the front.



We ended our second trimester a couple of weeks ago and I have been working on completing assessments and reports. My boys have been working really hard and it shows in the numbers. Here are only a few highlights of their progress since September.

Owen
* Increased accuracy of letter identification from 2% to 65%
* Increased ability to demonstrate letter sounds from 0% to 38%

Warren
* Increased accuracy of letter identification from 2% to 98%!
* Increased ability to distinguish beginning sounds in words from 11% to 87%

Richard
* Increased letter identification accuracy from 31% to 73%
* Increases visual recognition of colors from 37% to 90%

Chevon
* Increased letter identification from 8% to 75%
* Increased ability to order numbers 1-30 from 27% to 87%

This is the second team that has visited Sunbeam from Concordia College (Moorehead, Minnesota) this year. They volunteered to paint the rooms in my house! You can see my office in the background of this picture. The other rooms and other team pictures can be found on flickr.



They also joined me in the classroom. Here Courtney is working with Warren on matching capital and common (lower case) letters.



Xavion, Shaquille, Israel, and Emilio paused their cricket game today to pose for this picture.



This is Timothy. He is one of our hardest working boys. In addition to going to school, he is currently employed learning to align tires.



Wow, there's a lot here and it got long. Thanks for making it this far.

Also, thank you for your prayers for my students! They have a long way to go, but as you can see, they're making progress. I can't wait to share pictures from the first day they are able to read a book on their own.
