Happy Labour Day!

Today is Labour Day, a day set aside to improve communities, in Jamaica. From Government leaders down, Jamaicans are involved in local projects such as painting schools, picking up the trash, creating pedestrian crossings, fixing up parks, planting trees and much, much more.

My students were on cleaning crew in the room outside the classroom today. The dust that blows into this room is unbelievable. The boys were great about working hard.

We were blessed to have a painting crew from Windalco and the Kiwanis. They covered the dirty blue in the hall with a nice bright teal and the ceiling with a fresh coat of white. I'll post pictures when it's put back together.




The outside of the building got a face lift a few weeks ago and I'll get those pictures up soon as well.

With all the boys out of school today, we took some time to skip rope. When my students started this a couple of weeks ago, most where unable to do it. I can't believe how fast they've improved. They're learning to hop on one leg, go backwards, skip, cross it over and jump through, and all sorts of other tricks. It speaks to what kids can achieve if only given the opportunity.

Owen has the best mastery of crossing over.

When they don't have the school jump ropes to use, they find vines that will do the job. Thanks to the Concordia team for the ones we do have!
