Assessments

As a part of the end of the 1st trimester, I assessed each of my students. Their reports are very similar to progress reports for an Individual Education Plan in the States. In comparing their scores with the assessment in September, I was thrilled to see increases in individual scores anywhere from 2% to 34%!

A few points from the assessments:
• 25% of students can say the complete alphabet, previously it was 11%
• 63% can count 1-50, previously 72% could count from 1-30
• 100% can say the days of the week in order, in September it was 54%
• students can say 77% of the alphabet, previously 59%
• an average of 58% of letters of the alphabet can be identified,previously it was 38%
• 100% of students can read at least 1 common word, before 54% could not read a single common (basic) word
• the morning shift combined could only read 1 common word in September, now they are able to read 18 words
• afternoon shift combined could read 20 common words before, now they are able to read 42 words

There are days when I get frustrated with how slow the progress is or how basic the skills we're working on are, however, students are gaining. And more importantly, they seem to enjoy learning. The numbers are encouraging to me.
